New product on Redbubble: cloth face masks

work-27373674-mask Followers of this blog (hello!) will probably know that I have had a little shop on Redbubble for some time now. They emailed me in the last few weeks to say that they had added a new product on Redbubble – cloth face masks. These are masks designed for use in public, and would not be appropriate in a medical setting.

I feel a bit weird about the idea of making money from a crisis like CORVID-19. However, Redbubble have pledged that for every face mask bought they will donate one to the charity Heart to Heart international, which is an NGO that is working with partners internationally to distribute equipment needed in the fight against CORVID-19. I thought I would upload a few of my designs onto these face masks to support that.

Most of the designs I have are not particularly appropriate for face masks, and with a new baby I’m not in a good position to make anything new right now. However a few years ago I made a few pieces of paper cut art that were completely comprised of paper cut flowers. I was pleased with these and these were among my first designs on Redbubble. They aren’t particularly popular (although I don’t sell a huge amount of my art so it’s actually difficult to tell), but I have now added face masks to the available products here. If you were thinking of buying a mask you may want to take a look at these, and if you don’t like my designs there are many, many other wonderful designs on Redbubble to choose from.

A late Valentine’s card

I wanted to make a little update, I’m trying to get back to more regular postings, but still struggling a bit with feeling tired and fitting everything in. We managed to move house just before Christmas and have generally been trying to tidy up and sort out things for the baby. We are organised I think, in a haphazard kind of way. I am super close to my due date now and doing quite a bit less than I thought I would be doing at this point of time. However I did manage to make this valentines card for Mr Magpie.

I am interested in what people think of this design? I rather like it and am wondering if I should tidy it up a bit and make it available in my online shop? What do you think?

New story board attempt.

It’s been a while since I’ve had time to sit down and draw. After we moved and adopted the cats it’s taken a bit of time to settle in to doing creative things with paper. I’ve now been through a full cycle of ivf which was exhausting but ok. We are waiting on the outcome now. I also had quite a lot of animation work left to do on the computer and so prioritised getting that done.

But today I had some time to sit and draw some mini story boards for a documentary I’ve been working on for some time. I have some audio that needs visuals to go with it and I’ve been animating those sections among others. It feels really nice to be drawing again.

In other news I’ve started a patreon. There isn’t much on there at the moment but I’m planning to post pictures and updates on my drawing and writing which I’m less happy to put out in the public lest the ideas get pinched. I’d really appreciate it if people would be interested in following me there.

Weekend work in progress

I’ve been working on an animation for my documentary that involves some figures playing poker. Here’s a quick peek at one of the work in progress images.

I planned for the hands to be more of a mint green but didn’t have the right paper. But I think this shade works fine – I’m pretty happy with them.

Weekend work in progress: animated sections for my Doc

Here is a little extract from a documentary I have been working on for a long time now. I’ve been experimenting with different forms of animation and this one is pretty simple compared to some of the other things I am thinking about, but actually I think it looks really nice and clean. It could probably do with a few tweaks around speed and that kind of thing, but mostly this one has come together quite nicely.

Would love to hear any comments/ feedback.

New Design – pink flamingo

flamingo portrait

I’ve been sitting on this design (among others) for quite a while. This one was made through hand cutting and arranging a sheet of pink flowers, and hand drawing and cutting a flamingo silhouette. I pulled the finished design together in photoshop. It’s been snowing outside here in London for the last few days, but I think spring is on the way. It feels like a good time to release this flamingo into the wild.

If you like this design, it is available as a print and on other things at Redbubble here.

New design, new series. DIY soul repair.

skull society 6 sub

I’ve been working on this one for a while, and there were a few ‘works in progress’ posts on this project as I went along. I am thinking of this as the second in the series to this piece. I am thinking about a series of designs that relate to the concept resilience, of how we keep going after knocks, bruises, broken bones and heart break. DIY should repair.

Here is the finished thing. What do you think? I would love to hear your thoughts.

Things with this thing on available here.
